What Does Gray Mean?

Gray is a town in Jones County in Georgia named in honour of James Madison Gray, a Significant financier of the Confederacy during the Civil War.

The Town is home to the Jones County courthouse, a building built in 1905 that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Gray, GA

Gray is a City in Georgia designated as the county seat of Jones County, which is part of the Macon Metropolitan Area. It was established in the 1850s and has been named for James M. Gray, a local resident.

The city of Gray has one of the largest historic areas in The whole of Georgia as shown by a number of antebellum homes, civil war reenactments and natural spaces. Its Main Street Gray is a destination for arts, architecture, antiques, dining and family entertainment.

At the Otis Redding Monument located at 161 E. Clinton St., you can find an interactive memorial marker in honor of the renowned singer. In the region, you may listen to 15 of Redding's tunes such as "The Dock of the Bay," "Hard to Handle" and "These Arms of Mine."

Days, held at the Old Clinton Historic District, recreate the Battles of Sunshine Church that happened in July 1864 and Griswoldville, which took place in November 1864.
